Pinetop Perkins (July 7, 1913 - March 21, 2011)
Joseph William "Pinetop" Perkins was born in Mississippi in 1913 and started playing guitar and piano at a young age. After suffering an arm injury, he dropped the guitar and went on to become known for his piano playing. He toured with other great musicians at the time, such as Sonny Boy Williamson and Elmore James. He recorded tracks with Earl Hooker in the 50's.

His solo career was very successful, and continued touring well into his 90s.

One of his own first recorded songs was "Pinetop's New Boogie Woogie," originally written by Pinetop Smith. That's how we started off the tribute - with Pinetop Smith and a whole set of songs from the "Boogie Woogie" genre that Perkins was known for. Boogie Woogie is associated with being one of the roots of American rock 'n roll!
